Healthcare Programs.
It’s understandable that you may want to visit Nova Scotia before committing to relocating. This program reimburses you (and your partner) for a one-time visit to a potential practice site. You must be eligible for a license in Nova Scotia, and work with a recruiter to obtain approval from Nova Scotia Health prior to your visit.

Nursing.
In a gesture of appreciation towards Nova Scotia’s nurses and to encourage their continued dedication to the province, Premier Tim Houston has announced a $10,000 bonus for nurses in the publicly funded healthcare system. An additional $10,000 incentive awaits those committing to two more years in the system.
The Premier emphasized the vital role nurses play and expressed a commitment to support them. The bonus extends to those returning to the system, with a $10,000 incentive for agreeing to a two-year return of service. Other healthcare workers will also receive retention bonuses of up to $5,000.
These bonuses, prorated based on employment conditions, aim to recognize the hard work of healthcare professionals beyond negotiated wage agreements, forming part of the government’s Action for Health plan.
Locum support.
The Provincial Locum Program supports practicing physicians in rural communities. It helps bring medical care to patients of eligible physicians when the physician is away from their respective practice due to illness, vacation, or continuing medical education.
The locum program is administered by Medavie Blue Cross on behalf of the Nova Scotia government. The Department of Health and Wellness provides policy direction and funding.
